Indiana Pacers Sign Georges Niang

Ashley Hewitt is an experienced educator who has served in several schools in SC, including Pendleton Elementary School and Mt. Pleasant Academy Elementary School. When not working, Alice Ashley Hewitt enjoys watching basketball games and is a huge fan of the Indiana Pacers.

Recently, the Indiana Pacers signed Georges Niang. It was reported that Niang's performance in college basketball impressed the Pacers' management so much that they picked him up immediately in the second round of the draft. In the draft, Niang was the 50th overall pick by the Pacers.

After being signed, Niang went on to play for the Pacers' summer league team in Orlando, where he averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in five games. Indiana coach Nate McMillan praises Niang for having a great understanding and feel for the game.

During his time in college playing for the Iowa State Cyclones, Niang made an impressive showing with a career culminating with a ranking second-time in scoring with 2,228 points. In the four seasons that he was with the team, Niang scored an average of 20.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Once a high school dropout who prioritized social over academic success, Ashley Hewitt of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina (SC), has since gone on to excel in two careers and not only earned her Bachelor's degree, but also earned her Master's degree. She entered the field of education as a teenager when she became an after-school teacher with Mt. Pleasant Academy After-School, and with a few years she rose to a position as the program's assistant director. Ashley Hewitt then collaborated with the program's primary director to earn accreditation through the National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA). Mt. Pleasant Academy thus became the first program in SC to earn this credential.

Ashley Hewitt began gaining experience in the classroom as a substitute teacher with the Charleston County Schools. She then earned her degree in elementary education from Clemson University, and her performance as a student-teacher led to a job offer after her graduation. She went on to teach in second- and third-grade classrooms at Pendleton Elementary School, where she wrote a grant that funded the expansion of resources for the school's social studies program. Ms. Hewitt also represented Anderson School District 4 at a week-long program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), returning after the conference to become a mentor for science-inquiry advancement within her district.

Ms. Hewitt has since transitioned into a career as a paralegal. The SC native served with the firm of George Sink, P.A. Injury Lawyers for six years, during which time she received the firm’s Client Satisfaction Award in 2011 and achieved top satisfaction ranking in 2015.
